The Chief Marketing Officer Council (CMOC), a networking forum for senior business marketers from the IT sector, claims to have greatly exceeded expectations by signing up over 150 individuals since launching in Europe in January 2005.
The organisation is being run by PR network GlobalFluency, and was launched in the US in 2001 where it now boasts almost 1000 members. Beverly Bird, pan European director at Global Fluency, says the response from the target market has demonstrated that original expectations of a maximum forum of 200 individuals in Europe significantly understated the level of demand for the CMOC.
“We think it could possibly grow to the size of the US now,” says Bird.
CMOC provides a timetable of events, including seminars, dinners and an annual summit, enabling its members to network and learn from one another's experiences.
“The council provides a forum for thought leadership, and allows senior technology marketers to exchange views and discuss best practice,” explains Bird. A timetable of European events is under development, including an end-of-year summit.
Membership of the council is invitation-only to those in senior technology marketing roles. Revenue is generated from charging at certain events and from sponsorship from selected partner organisations.
Bird says most of the members signed-up to date are UK-based, although interest is growing from southern Europe, including Italy and Greece. The companies represented to date include Avaya, BT, Dell, HP, Microsoft, Peoplesoft and Siemens.
