TRADE NEWS: Metro Bank takes on the high street to surprise business users

Published: 08-03-2010

For the first time since the 19th century the Financial Services Authority (FSA) has granted a full service banking license for a new high street bank aimed at businesses.

Metro Bank will serve consumers and businesses, with two stores opening in London in the second quarter of 2010. It aims to build a network of over 200 stores in Greater London over a 10 year period.

The bank is aiming to stand out from its high street competitors by making sure it does "the right thing" and providing an ‘unparalleled service and convenience'. Metro Bank is hoping to fulfill this by being open seven days a week and for longer hours.

Anthony Thompson, chairman of Metro Bank said, "With the FSA authorisation of Metro Bank we are entering a new era of banking, one where we go back to a more traditional banking model where customer service is key."

Metro Bank is also proud to be a canine lover, offering "a friendly welcome to dogs and their owners, with water bowls and dog biscuits on hand." If you are missing a bit of excitement the bank also promises to ‘surprise and delight'.
